Irish Fossil Limestone

Irish Fossil Limestone is a natural product formed 321 million years ago from fossilised fauna that lived in shallow tropical waters. This sedimentary rock is quarried is a socially and environmentally responsible way in County Carlow Ireland, ensuring that the area is restored after excavation and that proactive steps are taken to minimise wastage.

The material is a hardened limestone and compared to Portland limestone, has a much tighter grain structure making it fourteen times less porous. The key charm of this particular material is the crinoidea fragments and shell fossils that can be seen in the limestone that add character to worktops, tiles or external cladding projects.

The material has recently been used in several high profile global projects including The More London Development - Riverside London and the Irish Hunger Memorial - New York USA.

Irish Fossil Limestone is new to the UK and Chiltern Marble are proud to be an authorised supplier and fabricator of the stone.
